Either you have done something wrong or you have a problem with your hardware (probably with your Raid controllers).
To exclude the latter I have proposed to try an install by using the F6 method with the old 6.56 driver package.
Why didn't you do that?

EDIT: Sorry, I meant the 6.53 package. The 6.56 package is a 64-bit one.
